This charming series of house and city giclee prints will warm your heart. Each piece is a mixed media work of art full of texture and color. These may appear to be simple but there are sooooo many layers and steps in each one!
I start with acrylic paint to create the vibrant abstract background. Next, I take junk mail from the recycling bin and use black crayon to freehand draw individual houses, city buildings, barns, school houses, (and any other building you might see around town). I then cut these drawings out and decoupage them onto the colored background. I then go back to the acrylic paints to add color to the buildings and create the landscape and sky around them. Each picture has a little bird painted in for an extra touch of whimsy, too. At art fairs it is always fun to ask kids if they can find all the birds!
The overall series is called "Around Town."

AT-2p"It's a Stretch" is inspired by the many vintage homes in my city and the title comes from the long, stretched out bird legs of our little feathered friend.
AT-3p "Stand Tall" As someone who has always been one of the shortest in the room, I've learned you don't have to be 6'-2" to stand tall. AT-4p "On the Farm" is inspired by the days my brother and I would spent at our Grandparents' farm, petting the cows and playing in the hayloft.
AT-5p "White House" is modeled after my childhood home. Do you see the little blue bird hovering between the house and the tree?
AT-7p "Good to be King" is for those times when you are on top of the world...or in this bird's case...on top of the roof!
AT-6p "Citified" is a nod to the types of buildings so many people call home! Look at that little pink bird just cruising by!
AT-8p "School House" because who doesn't love the nostalgia of an old fashioned one-room school house!?
AT-9p "Chillaxin'" This little bird has found a spot of respite on the fence and in the shade!
